Question: Have all "open brethren" always recognized elders? I remember asking if Brother X was an elder at a particular Gospel Hall in Northern Ireland back in the 1980's. The answerer, said, "Oh no, there are no elders now, but Brother X is part of the oversight." I asked if someone in the oversight was not an elder, and the response was that there are no elders today, reminiscent of Darby's teaching that the church is in ruins. Is it possible that the concept of a publicly recognized elder is relatively new to the Gospel Hall branch of Open Brethren? —unsigned comment by 212.227.103.74 (talk • contribs)
