[edit] Colombia
There are currently 25 Open Brethren assemblies in Colombia. The work began in the 1950's - isolated in the Pato area in the south. However, the majority of the assemblies that exist today are the result of work begun in the coffee-growing heartland of Colombia in the early 1970's. Among the missionary workers are David and Aline Thomson who have been serving since 1996. They have 2 children - Michael (5 years) and Nicole (18 months). There are over 60 Closed assemblies in the country. Their leading man, Alden Poehner, died 2 May 2007. His widow, Ingeborg, nee Fuhr, continues. These assemblies arose in the time of 'La Violencia' whem over 300,000 people died. The period 1948-1958 were ten years of very fruitful years for the gospel and many came to faith in Christ, notwithstanding persecutions.

The first assembly gospel worker commended to Venezuela was a Canadian Mr. William Williams in 1912. Mr. Gordon Johnston also came in 1912. The first assembly was formed in 1916 in Puerto Cabello. There are over 150 assemblies in Venezuela today. Many of these are gospel-minded to spread the word into places where there are no assemblies yet. Souls are being saved. Venezuela has 25 commended gospel workers, 14 of which are nationals. There are also 4 second-generation missionaries.
