Assembly

(Redirected from Assemblies)
"The assembly" is the way Plymouth Brethren refer to their local church. Since many brethren churches began as simple gatherings in homes or schools, the idea flowed from the biblical concept of the ekklesia, the called out ones, or those "assembled" to worship.
Most brethren would prefer using the word "assembly" rather than the word church and would use it in a sentence like: "What assembly are you attending?" While in it's simplest sense this could be taken to mean "which church do you attend?", over time this came to be a question of "which brethren assembly do you attend?"
"Gathered to the name of the Lord Jesus Christ" is also a phrase used to describe a brethren "gathering"
